Image quality of the human eye.

چکیده
The eye is an optical instrument that projects scenes of the visual world onto the retina. It has been known for many years that the eye is far from being a perfect optical system, in particular for large pupil diameters. Refractive anomalies (defocus or astigmatism) occur frequently in the eye. In Western countries, myopia affects approximately 30% of the population, although its prevalence is much higher (> 80%) in certain Asian societies. However, the eye suffers also from other optical imperfections (called high-order aberrations), which are not typically measured in the clinic and cannot be corrected by conventional means. Like defocus, optical aberrations blur the retinal image, reducing image contrast and limiting the range of spatial frequencies available to further stages of the visual processing. The contribution of aberrations to optical degradation is typically smaller than is that of defocus or astigmatism. The blurring effect of aberrations becomes more noticeable for large pupils. For small pupil sizes, diffraction effects, associated with limited aperture size, predominate over the aberrations. Along with diffraction and aberrations, scattering also contributes to degradation of retinal image quality. Scattering occurs at the cornea and particularly in the lens. Although typically scattering is small in normal, young eyes, it is well known that it increases with age (due to changes in the crystalline lens) and after PRK refractive surgery.

Assessing the image quality and eye lens dose reduction using bismuth shielding in computed tomography of brain
Background: Epidemiological studies show that computed tomography (CT) is one of the main sources of ionizing radiations. Shielding of radiosensitive organs is one of the dose reduction methods. This study aimed to assess the eye lens dose reduction and image quality resulting from the use of radio-protective bismuth shield in brain CT imaging. Methods: Bismut...
متن کاملStudy of Optical Models Regarding the Human Eye
Introduction: Until now, many models have been presented for optical study of the human eye. In recent years, surgery on the anterior section of the eye (such as cataract and photo-refractive surgery) has increased, so a study on the optics of the eye and evaluation of vision quality has become more important. Material and Methods: In this article, some of these models are considered. They incl...
متن کاملReduced-Reference Image Quality Assessment based on saliency region extraction
In this paper, a novel saliency theory based RR-IQA metric is introduced. As the human visual system is sensitive to the salient region, evaluating the image quality based on the salient region could increase the accuracy of the algorithm. In order to extract the salient regions, we use blob decomposition (BD) tool as a texture component descriptor. A new method for blob decomposition is propos...
متن کاملQuality Assessment of Turfgrasses Using NTEP Method Compared to an Image-Based Scoring System
The current methods of turfgrass evaluations are often based on human-based assessment methods. However, eliminating subjective errors from such evaluations is often impossible. This research compared the accuracy of human-based and digital image processing-based methods for quality assessment of turfgrasses. Four turfgrass plots were evaluated using the two mentioned methods. In the human-base...
